It is with great sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of Jarod Grant Thomson of Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the age of 44 years due to heart failure.

Jarod was born in Regina, SK on July 18, 1975 and was raised in Priddis, AB where he attended Red Deer Lake School and Foothills Composite High School. He later graduated with distinction from the University of Calgary’s Commerce program in 1998 and went on to obtain an MBA in Business at the Richard Ivey School of Business in 2004. Jarod was a highly respected strategy leader in Calgary’s energy sector. He was a senior manager for Accenture’s Strategy Group as well as their Strategy Lead for Canadian Energy. He later moved on to Suncor, progressing to the role of Director of IT Strategy and Investment Portfolio Management. Most recently, Jarod was a valued member for Ernst & Young’s Strategy Consulting department, where he was a senior manager. Jarod was an avid skier and outdoors enthusiast. He loved walking through Fish Creek Park and visiting his family’s cabin on the beautiful shores of Kootenay Lake in BC.

Jarod is survived by his father Greg Thomson (Cindy); his mother Carolyn Thomson (Mike); sister Alyson Wright (Jordan); brother Darren Thomson (Cailin); as well as his niece Jenna; and nephews, Jackson and Sullivan.  He will be lovingly remembered for his huge heart, his brilliant sense of humour and his dedication to excellence in his career. 

A Service in Jarod’s Memory will be held at Red Deer Lake United Church (West on Highway 22X past Spruce Meadows, Calgary, AB) on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Jarod’s honour may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.
