Irene Florence Nash Jespersen, age 95, of Turner Valley, Alberta, passed away October 11, 2020 at Extendicare, Vulcan Alberta.

Florence is predeceased by her parents Fred and Florence Nash; sister Evelyn Bennett; husband Charles Jespersen; and sons Bill Murdoch and Kevin Murdoch. Florence will be fondly remembered by grandson Logan Murdoch, granddaughter Natasha Leeming, step-grandson Greg Paquin; nephew Robert Bennett (Tamara), niece Carol (Ted) McAneeley, and nephew Don Bennett as well as great nieces Shelley (Bennett) Smith, Lindsay, Shannon, Robin and Kelly McAneeley.

Florence and her sister were raised on the Big Horn ranger station, 50 miles from Turner Valley. They lived a life of riding, roping, shooting, fighting fires and supplying lookout stations and more. Florence was nominated Woman of Canada for her legal battles for a ranch women’s rights and took it to the Supreme Court of Canada. Although Florence did not win this case, an uproar ensued across Canada which saw the next ranch woman to sue for her legal rights, win unanimously.

There will be no memorial service, but family had a private graveside gathering at Evergreen Funeral Home in Edmonton, Monday, October 19. Memorial donations may be made in Florence’s name to the charity of your choice.
