November 10, 1935 – July 12, 2021

Garth Whitford of High River passed away peacefully on July 12th with family by his side.

Garth was born at Shipman, Saskatchewan on the family farm on November 10, 1935. He was the sixth of eleven children.

Garth (also known as “Bullet”or “Nav”) started trucking at age 18 and in 1963 started a successful business known as Navajo Trucking. He was an extremely hard working, well respected entrepreneur and was a great mentor to many people. Garth never lost interest of the daily activities in the trucking industry. His passion for trucking was evident to all.

Garth will be missed by his family. He is survived by his daughter Tami (John) Cartwright, son Darcy (Bonny) Whitford, daughters Sherry Whitford and Shelley Lippert; grandchildren Victoria (Michael), Chantel (Lauren), Sam, Piper, Cooper, Megan, Sean and Mikayla; great-grandchildren Benton, Adilyn and Thea; niece Tracey (Ryan) Wilson, nephew Keith (Marilyn) Whitford and Cindy’s Bill Dobra; sisters Marge (Lorne), Yvonne, Helen (Eric), Louise (Len); brothers Ivan (Ann), and Marcel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Garth will be especially missed by his long-time companion Bev Van Dine and his long-time friend Bill Earl who would stop by for his daily visit and was always there to lend a hand.

Garth was predeceased by his wife Pat; daughter Cindy; parents Duncan and Florence; brothers Stan and Reg and sisters Dorothy and Edna.

The family would like to thank the ambulance service and fire department for their many code “Garth” calls to transport him to the hospital. Thank you to his doctors and all the staff at High River Hospital, and South Calgary Health Campus for your wonderful care. You kept him going for many years. Also, a big thank you to home care for all services.

Thank you to everyone who visited Garth. He loved visiting with you all.

A Celebration of Garth’s Life will be held at a later date.
