Eva Zilm (nee Ernst) passed away on
September 14, 2022 with her four daughters
at her side.
Eva was born on May 6, 1929 in Wimborne,
Alberta. She grew up near Torrington in
a mixed family with 17 step, half and full
siblings. While living with a sister at Seebe,
she caught the eye of a handsome man who
would become her husband – David Zilm.
Eva and David were married on September
14, 1950 and remained together for 68 years
until David’s passing in 2018. During their
life together, they lived in Seebe, Ghost Dam,
Brazeau Dam, Winfield, Okotoks, Calgary and
Vernon, BC.
Eva was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She
loved her family and enjoyed hooking rugs,
crocheting, baking, canning, gardening and
walking. She will be fondly remembered
for her incomparable pickles, peaches and
gingersnaps. She also had an appreciation
for clothing, lipstick and jewellery, the latter of
which many pieces were purchased as gifts
by her loving husband and carefully stored
wrapped in layers of tissue. Following David’s
retirement, the couple travelled the world and
visited Greece, Mexico, Australia, and many
other countries. She had an eternally young
spirit and referred to other people her age –
but not herself – as “old folks” into her 90s.
Eva passed away on what would have been
her and David’s 72nd wedding anniversary.
At her request, an intimate family service
was held, where she was laid to rest beside
her husband.
Predeceased by her husband David, son David
and all 17 of her siblings, Eva is survived
by her daughters Jennifer (Bill), Katherine,
Leta (Al) and Leslie. She is also survived by
her grandchildren Jill (Aaron), Monica (Pat),
Aleisha (Eric) and great-grandchildren Robyn,
Parker, Austin and Rosalie.
