It is with heavy hearts that we, as a family, say good-bye to Ernie Clarke, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ernie passed away at home with his family by his side at the age of 81 years.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Judy; his son Darcy Clarke (Anna); daughters Lori Barry (Gary), and Fonda Vadnais (Chris); grandchildren Cameron Couey, Dawson Couey (Katrina), Autumn Clarke, Jocasta Clarke, Aiden Clarke, DJ Sehn (Jessica), and Devyn Sehn; great-grandchildren Keston Couey, Brody Couey, Alexis Couey, Deegan Couey, Kaylee Sehn, and Jaxon Sehn, as well as his brother Bob Clarke; and sisters Jean Clarke and Carol Sabouain.
Ernie worked hard in several different jobs to support his family until he became part owner of Steeple Jack Services in Calgary. After selling his shares in the company, Ernie reinvented his career and joined the team at Farmway Machinery in High River selling farm equipment. He was a Massey man through and through, just ask any of the grandkids.
Ernie started to enjoy his retirement at the age of 67. He loved golfing, camping, and sharing his love of old-time gospel music as a member of the Over the Hill Gang. He also delighted in sharing the secret ingredient to his famous pancakes with every generation. Many have fond memories of discovering it was beer… ½ for the batter, ½ for Grampa!
Ernie was always giving back to his community through his many volunteer efforts; Agricultural Society, IOOF Lodge in Cayley, Food Bank, and many more community initiatives. The music program at Cayley School was near and dear to his heart
The family will be honouring his request to not have a funeral service. There will be a private family Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ernie may be made to the Cayley School Music Program (904 Ross Ave, Cayley, T0L 0P0).
