It is with sadness and love, we share that Toy MacLeod (nee Jolie) passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 2nd, 2019 at the age of 91. Toy was born December 24th, 1927 in Blind River Ontario and grew up in the beautiful Kootenays of BC. As her older brother Royce was expecting a toy for Christmas, her given name, Doris, was soon replaced with “Toy”. Her long full life was centred on her family. As a young mother Toy taught herself to sew, creating beautiful clothes for her daughters and grandchildren, including wedding dresses. Creativity sprang from her hands leaving a legacy of handmade afghans, quilts, and art work. Volunteering at the Turner Valley Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years as well as the Turner Valley Golf Club kept Toy engaged in her community. A golfer in the summer and curler in the winter. Living independently in her home until her last three weeks, Toy enjoyed cooking and baking for the many family gatherings as well as for her neighbours. She enjoyed feeding the wildlife who frequented her yard, and caring for her cats. This active giving and sharing kept Toy happiest. She will be missed and remembered with love by so many. Toy was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1996. She is survived by brothers Royce, Scamp and Cyril as well as her children Jackie, Gerry, Donna, Allan and Chris. Toy loved and cherished all of her eight Grandchildren and eight Great Grandchildren. The family gratefully acknowledges the compassionate care provided to Toy, our family and friends by the staff of Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond. You are extraordinary people. At Toy’s request there will be no public memorial service. A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held at a later date.
