On October 2, 2021, Carolyn Mary (Jo) Wegelin (nee Rose) passed away peacefully after succumbing to an aggressive cancer.

In addition to being Auntie Coney, she was also known as “Mom” to many. None would argue that her heart was big enough to love each and every one who was fortunate to know her.

Carolyn was a natural artist who honed her skills at the Alberta College of Art and Design in the 1960s. There wasn’t a type of needlework she didn’t explore and subsequently master; but she had a particular gift for quilting. Over the years, she would create gorgeous quilts that showcased her talents and love for all things artistic. There are many Wegelin Family quilts in possession of people across the globe. Each was a unique design and all are well loved. When Carolyn was unable to quilt, cross stitch became her focus and she spent much time creating delightful cards for every occasion.

That Carolyn loved animals was an understatement. She never met a dog or cat she didn’t love at first sight. Many pets were cared for in the Wegelin household. The joke within the family remains, “if you die, come back as a Wegelin family pet. You’ll be well cared for!”

Taken much too soon and missed greatly, Carolyn leaves behind her husband, David, son Austin (Traci), sister Cathy, nieces and nephews Allison (Shawn), Danielle (Troy), Gail (Michael), Jim (Pao), Leah (Bob), Megan (Phil), Pat (Penny), Susan (Steve), Stephen, and her best friend, Joan as well as many loved friends, cats and dogs. Carolyn is recently predeceased by her daughter Adrianne, and her beloved sister-in-law Ida.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or your local SPCA.
