It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mayor William (Bill) Bernard Robertson of Okotoks, Alberta. Bill passed away on July 7th surrounded by family at the Foothills Country Hospice. He was 67 years old.

Bill is lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Elaine; sons Michael (Calli), Jeffrey (Nicole) and Bradley (Nicola); grandchildren Mason, Jace, Brady and Rylen; siblings Elizabeth, Kathleen, Robbie, Pamela and Gail; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Bill was born and raised in Calgary, attended the University of Calgary and eventually settled in Okotoks with his wife and family, where he worked as teacher in the area for 33 years. Bill also served on Okotoks Town Council for 26 years, first as a Councilor and then as Mayor, a position he held until his passing.

Bill lived a life of public service and took great pride in serving his community to the best of his abilities. Whether you knew him as “Mr. R,” “Mayor Robertson,” or “Bill,” he worked tirelessly to support his community and leave everyone he served with a smile on their face. Bill constantly encouraged carpe diem, or “seizing the day,” and brought a sense of optimism and positivity to whatever he did. He will be remembered for the positive impacts he left on the countless people he interacted with throughout his life, along with the unwavering love and support he showed for his family.

A public Celebration of Life for Bill will be held at the Foothills Centennial Centre on Saturday July 17th at 1:00pm. This service will also be live-streamed and can be viewed on the Town of Okotoks website, www.okotoks.ca.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Okotoks Food Bank, www.okotoksfoodbank.ca, 220 Stockton Ave #120, Okotoks, AB T1S 2C3 or to the Foothills Country Hospice, www.countryhospice.org, P.O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB T1S 1A5.
