The Turner Valley Triathlon will be more than swimming, biking and running this Canada Day. It will also be lights, camera, action.

“We are going to have it professionally videoed and we will be putting it on YouTube and our webpage,” said Dawn Johnson, the coordinator of the fourth annual triathlon. “They will have cameras from the bottom of the pool which means we will have a different angle of the swimmers.”

The video will help promote the Town of Turner Valley and the terrific scenery around the community nestled in the foothills. The video is being filmed by Killer Aerial Productions from British Columbia.

The video will capture the scenery of the foothills as the bikers head out on their 20km route outside of town. They will be filmed from above, cameras attached to flying drones will be filming action. Johnson described them as “mini helicopters.”

The runners will also be filmed as they run the final leg of the triathlon, the 5km run, which takes place on the Friendship Trail connecting Turner Valley and Black Diamond.

Of course, the camera will also capture the happy smiles of the participants as they cross the finish line.

Proceeds from the triathlon go towards Friends of the Lander Pool and KidSport.

The Lander Pool is where the swimmers will swim their 500m.

Johnson said the triathlon is an ideal way for family and friends to start their Canada Day activities.

People can participate in the triathlon either as an individual or as a team.

“It is a fun event,” Johnson said. “We get a lot of participation from people in the foothills.”

The triathlon starts at 8 a.m. on July 1. A Kids of Steel race will take place at 10 a.m.
