An Okotoks hockey team has climbed the mountain to perfection on the ice.
The Okotoks Oilers U15 D team completed an undefeated regular season in the Rockies Hockey League with a 14-0-0 mark while outscoring its opposition in the eight-team league by a 108-50 margin.
“A big lesson our players have learned this year is that having a positive attitude on the bench and cheering on our teammates for their accomplishments, big and small, reflects positively on the scoreboard,” said coach Sharon Lair.
Okotoks completed the season with a comprehensive 8-1 result in its regular season finale on Feb. 11.
Seven different goal scorers lit the lamp with Ashton Foley scoring twice, Owen Ruigrok, Willem Dekok, Hudson McKernan, Preston Bailey, Malakye Duckett and Preston Bourgeois all adding single tallies.
Duckett, Foley and Ruigrok finished first, third and fourth in league scoring, respectively.
Goaltenders Jacob Scullion and Hayden Hudecek each won seven games for the Oilers.
“We had a couple of tough tournaments, but the boys realized that there are lessons to be learned in tough games and celebrated the small wins,” said Lair.
“The coaching staff is very proud of the team's progression and accomplishing this great milestone this season.”
