Okotoks runner still plowing through ultra

Run being directed from Okotoks

An Okotoks runner has 67 kilometres in the books but he expects to be on his treadmill for the next 24 hours at least.

David Proctor started his 11th lap of 6.7km each at 5 p.m. in the Quarantine Backyard Ultra which started a 7 a.m. July 11.

The virtual run has 1,200 runners competing from around the world. However, much of the organization and broadcast is being done from Okotoks.

The format has runners completing a 6.7km loop every hour. The winner is the last runner standing who can complete the 6.7km loop in each proceeding hour.

Daniel Bowie, the technical producer and from his Okotoks garage, is directing the camera work as runners spanning the globe are being interviewed.

Proctor, who is running on a treadmill in his Okotoks home basement, is doing a live broadcast during his trek at approximately the bottom half of the hour.

He anticipates he will be running until 7 a.m July 13.

To watch the live broadcast go to the Quarantine Backyard Ultra Facebook page.
