Okotoks Mavericks win big at provincial swimming trials

Big event season is going swimmingly for the Okotoks Mavericks.

The swim club produced four gold, three silver and two bronze medals along with five top-eight finishes and three more qualifications to the Alberta Championships at the Swim Alberta Provincial Trials last weekend in Edmonton.

The trio of Tanner Donnelly, Peyton Jones and Carson Vollman swam to championship qualification standards to earn a spot at the upcoming Alberta Championships, held the second weekend of March at Calgary’s MNP Sport Centre.

Donnelly won two gold at trials in the 200m IM and breaststroke, adding silver in 100m breaststroke and bronze in 50m backstroke, Jones was golden in the 100m breaststroke with Vollman in top spot in the 200m IM and third in the 400m IM.

Declan Harrison scored a pair of silver (400m IM and 200m butterfly) with Jones, Vollman, Katherine Kohn and Gavin Pacitti all earning top-eight finishes.

Donnelly, Harrison, Vollman, Jones, Kohn, Pacitti, Leah Hunter, Camryn Jones, Lauren Livingstone and Hadleigh Murphy all posted provincial qualifying swim times.

Following the Alberta Championships, March 7-10 in Calgary, the Mavericks are off to the NCSA Spring Invitational on March 16-17 and Western Canadian Championships March 20-25.
