The Okotoks Mavericks have once again sprung into action on the provincial stage.

At the Swim Alberta Spring Championships, March 7-10 in Calgary, the Okotoks club produced seven medals, two club records, two Youth Recognition awards and a pair of new qualifiers for Western Nationals.

Wells Ginzer had a prolific weekend in the pool with a medal of every colour: gold in the 50m backstroke, silver in 100m backstroke, and bronze in 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Lucy Wiens made waves in Calgary as well by breaking club records which stood for 10 and eight years, respectively, in the 100m and 50m backstroke.

Wiens won silver in the 50m event with teammate Mikayla Paul posting silver in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Wiens and Ginzer earned Youth Recognition awards going to swimmers who’ve posted swim standards that rank them within the top-10 in Canada in their respective age groups.

Ginzer, Wiens and Paul all earned Canadian Junior National and Canadian Senior National qualifying standard swims.

Impressively, Ginzer and Wiens also swam to Olympic trials qualifying standards in three events.

By achieving Western National Qualifying standard swims at the Spring Championships, Rylee Flora and Alexander Holt earn a berth into the Western Nationals, held next week in Winnipeg.

The Mavericks had a strong showing at the provincial meet across the board with Oscar Bednarz, Carson Vollman and Charlotte Johnston posting top-eight finishes and Keton Murphy, Gibson Hurd and Peyton Jones adding top-16 performances.

Next up for the club is the NCSA Spring Invitational on March 16-17 followed by the Western Canadian Championships from March 20-25 in Winnipeg.
