Oilers one win away from sweeping Mustangs

The Okotoks Junior A Oilers took a stranglehold in their best-of-seven Alberta Junior Hockey League playoff series by downing the Calgary Mustangs 6-3 March 8. Okotoks leads the series 3-0 and can sweep tonight (March 9) in Calgary.

The Okotoks Junior A Oilers took a stranglehold in their best-of-seven Alberta Junior Hockey League playoff series by downing the Calgary Mustangs 6-3 March 8.

Okotoks leads the series 3-0 and can sweep tonight (March 9) in Calgary.

The Oilers fell behind in Game 3 by a 3-1 margin after the first period with Scott Bolland scoring the only goal for Okotoks.

The Oilers closed the gap to 3-2 in the second on a goal by Bolland with 1:45 left in the period.

Okotoks put the game away with four unanswered goals in the third period.

Jonathan Turk had a pair of goals while Joel Johnson and Ben Gamache had single markers.

Oilers’ goalie Michael Tadjdeh was named Okotoks’ game star. He faced 33 shots and was perfect in the final two periods allowing Okotoks to make their dramatic comeback.

Former Okotoks Junior B Bison Wooje Sung had a goal for the Mustangs and was named a game star.

Game 4 is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Father David Bauer Arena, which is just north of McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

The winner of the Mustangs-Oilers series will advance to the AJHL South Division final. Their opponent will be the winner of the Camrose Kodiaks versus Brooks Bandits series.

The Kodiaks lead the series 2-1.
