The Okotoks Peewee AA Oilers came incredibly close to a provincial title on Sunday.

The Oilers fell 2-1 to the Camrose Kodiaks in the final of the Peewee AA provincials last weekend in Whitecourt.

Okotoks won two of three games in the round robin portion of the event – defeating Camrose 7-5 and Grande Prairie 18-0.

With their record they advanced to the tournament semifinal against the Whitecourt Brutes.

The Oilers stomped the Brutes 8-0 on Sunday morning and advanced to a rematch with the Kodiaks in the final.

Owen Guenter scored for Okotoks in the championship match, but Camrose responded with two of their own to secure the victory.

Guenter also led the way in the semifinal win with five points including three goals and two assists.

Jaedon Kalupar recorded a team-high total of five goals and four assists in the round robin portion of the tournament.

The Oilers were defeated in the first round of the South Central Alberta Hockey League playoffs by Red Deer.

Bantam Oilers get Ice’d

It was a tough weekend for the Okotoks Bantam AA Oilers.

The Oilers lost three straight games to the Cranbrook Ice in their bid to win the best-of-five South Central Alberta Hockey League title.

Okotoks took to the road last Friday for Game 1 of the championship final and were drubbed 9-0 by the SCAHL’s top regular season squad.

Game 2 in Cranbrook featured more of the same as the Ice won 5-0.

The series shifted to the Centennial Arena on Sunday, however, the home-ice advantage wasn’t enough to deliver a victory for the Oilers as Cranbrook claimed the league title.

The Oilers finished the season as the SCAHL’s North Division champions.

Captain Taylor McNeill led the way in scoring for Okotoks in the playoffs with five goals and one assist in eight games.
