Drillers, Falcons lose provincial openers

The Foothills Falcons dropped a 77-47 decision to the host Raymond Comets in both teams opening games of the 4A provincial finals. The Falcons’ leading scorer was Noelle Reboul who finished with 12 points.

Amy Wooldridge finished with 10 points for Foothills.

Foothills is the 13th ranked seed in the 16-team tournament. The loss put the Falcons on the consolation side. Foothills’ next game is at 1 p.m. March 16 when they play the Lethbridge Collegiate Rams.

4A is for schools with a minimum enrolment of 800 students.

In Girls 2A provincial action in Lethbridge, the Oilfields Drillers were beaten 64-54 by the Glenmary Saints on March 15.

The Drillers will now play Rimbey at 4 p.m. in the 2A provincial championships, for schools with an enrolment of 100 to 399 students.

The Holy Trinity Academy Knights will see their first provincial action at 3 p.m. March 16 in Camrose when they take on the W.R. Myers Rebels in Camrose.

As the third-seed in the 12-team tournament they received a first-round bye. 3A schools have enrolments of between 400 and 799 students.
