Okotoks gifted its legions of supporters an historic performance on fan appreciation night.

The Okotoks Dawgs (42-13) set a Western Canadian Baseball League single season wins record with their 42nd triumph of the 2022 summer campaign on the strength of a 10-5 victory over the Brooks Bombers in the regular season home finale, Friday night at Seaman Stadium.

In a seesaw affair, the Dawgs rode a five-run fourth inning to the historic win.

Slugger McCoy Pearce led the way with a three hit, four RBI night, Okotokian Connor Crowson had three hits in as many at-bats with infielder Ricardo Sanchez adding two RBI and catcher Jacob Morrow driving in a run.

Reliever Jackson Fraser picked up the win as Okotoks' bullpen made its mark with seven relievers spelling starter Julian Tymochko.

Earlier in the week, the Dawgs earned a walk-off victory for the ages with Sanchez delivering the winning RBI single in a 10-9 victory in ten innings over Lethbridge that eliminated the Bulls from playoff contention on Aug. 3.

Okotoks has one more game to add to its win total with its regular season swan song on Aug. 6 in Brooks.

The Dawgs’ previous most wins mark was 40, a benchmark they set during their most championship season in 2019. The Regina Red Sox had the WCBL wins record at 41, also from the 2019 campaign.

This summer, the Dawgs have been the picture of consistency.

Okotoks is tops in runs scored and is among the top in statistics for all of the major batting categories.

It’s the Dawgs work on the mound that truly stands above the rest.

Okotoks’ 192 earned runs against in 54 games is best in the 11-team league, the Dawgs have allowed the least amount of walks and wild pitches and rank third in strikeouts.

The 2022 Playoffs kick off on Aug. 8 in Okotoks for the best-of-three series that will see Game 1 on Monday and Game 3, if necessary, on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Seaman Stadium.

Okotoks will play either Brooks or Fort McMurray in the first-round with the second-seed Sylvan Lake Gulls hosting the other West Division semifinal.

The WCBL West Division final will begin Aug. 12.
