The 4A South Central Zone basketball games between the Holy Trinity Academy Knights and the Foothills Falcons tonight has been cancelled due to provincial-wide recommendations by Alberta Health Services concerning COVID-19.

Both the Knights and the Falcons boys and girls teams were going to play for the championship tonight in what was expected to be a sold-out crowd of 800 to 1,000 spectators.

"It's really disappointing," said Knights coach Sam Aiello. "The kids were here shooting practice and they just left. They are disappointed."

In a letter to parents, HTA principal Carmen Ostafichuk wrote:

"Dear Parents/Guardians:

Alberta Health Services is asking organizers to cancel any events that have more than 250 attendees. This includes large sporting events, conferences and community events. It does not extend to places of worship, grocery stores, airports or shopping centres.

In light of this directive, we would like to announce the cancellation of the Knights versus Falcons boys and girls basketball game this evening. We are doing so in co-operation with Foothills School Division."

It would have been the first time the two Okotoks teams have played each other this season.
