Athletes show will of iron

Several foothills men and women showed iron will in competing in the grueling Subaru Ironman Triathlon Sunday in Penticton, B.C. Five Okotoks residents and one from Millarville crossed the finish line at the race. The Ironman consists of a 3.

Several foothills men and women showed iron will in competing in the grueling Subaru Ironman Triathlon Sunday in Penticton, B.C.

Five Okotoks residents and one from Millarville crossed the finish line at the race.

The Ironman consists of a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride and a full marathon run of 32.2km.

Scott Calver, a new resident to Okotoks, turned in the fastest time at 12 hours, 27 minutes and 53 seconds.

Kevin Wall of Okotoks turned in a time of 13:26:01

Millarville’s Tim Johnson clocked in at 13:32:13.

Candice Wyma of Okotoks came in at 14:54:34.

The son-and-mother team of Joey and Leslie Woehleke finished at 14:56:08 and 16:57:04. respectively.

Joey Woehleke is a former Holy Trinity Academy Knight football player.

Both Woehlekes are contemplating running in the Sheep River Road Race this Monday in Okotoks.

The temperatures for the Ironman were in the high 20s.

The winning time was by Matthew Russell of Scottsdale, AZ at 8:48:30.

There were 2,422 athletes who completed the race.
