Foothills residents may need to prepare for windy conditions Thursday.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the Okotoks and High River areas and much of the MD of Foothills.

An alert issued Wednesday afternoon states westerly winds as high as 80 km/hr and gusts upwards of 100 km/hr are expected to develop Thursday morning and persist for most of Thursday afternoon.

Some portions of the Okotoks region may see wind gusts as strong as 80 km/hr and the warning is in place for several parts of the MD, including Longview, Priddis, Eden Valley, Black Diamond and Cayley. The warning also stretches as far south as Claresholm.

According to the weather statement the winds are the result of a Pacific disturbance moving into southwestern Alberta into Thursday morning.

The alert states the wind may be enough to cause damage to structures and people are advised to secure loose objects and be aware while driving.
