Wildfire moving toward Foothills

MD of Foothills residents are advised to be vigilant as a forest fire creeps into the northwest boundary of the municipality. As of 4 p.m. May 27, a wildfire was reported burning out of control in the Kananaskis Improvement District approximately 16 kilometres south of Bragg Creek. According to the Safe Communities Alert Network, the fire is moving northeast toward the extreme northwest corner of the MD of Foothills, in the Priddis area. A voluntary evacuation is in place for areas west of Highway 762, between Highway 22 and 178 Avenue West. Crews from Alberta Forestry and Foothills Fire are battling the blaze with helicopters and heavy equipment. Wildfire danger in the MD is considered very high. Residents are advised to monitor Alberta Emergency Alerts and the MD of Foothills website at www.mdfoothills.com for more information.
