Foothills entertainment guide for Nov. 22-24

SINGING THE BLUES

Head on down to downtown Okotoks and listen to the soulful sounds of John Rutherford and John Wort Hannam as they collaborate on stage to end the Roots and Blues Weekend, which kicked off last night with performances by Valdy and Joe Nolan. Tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 at the door, and can be purchased at the Okotoks Art Gallery, by calling 403-938-3204 or online at Okotoks.ca

AN EVENING OF BEGINNINGS

Enjoy a varied repertoire of choral music from classical songs to classics like The Beatles’ Blackbird in the Foothills Philharmonic Society chamber choir’s concert Beginnings, in collaboration with the Alberta High School of Fine Arts Vocal Ensemble. Tickets cost $20, $15 for seniors and students and children ages 12 and under are free. They can be purchased at foothillsphilharmonic.com

STORYTELLING THROUGH SONG

Award-winning country singer and storyteller Blake Reid is heading to Okotoks for an intimate concert. Reid’s music is rooted in the traditions of country and great storytelling, while incorporating flavours of folk, roots, bluegrass, rock ‘n’ roll and more.

When: Nov. 23 from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

 

OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS

Learn how some of Okotoks’ earlier residents celebrated Christmas at the museum’s Old Fashioned Christmas exhibit. Rooms will be filled with the sights, sounds and memories of a heritage Christmas as the museum celebrates Christmases of the past. Admission is by donation.

STREAKING BISONS

The Okotoks Bisons will attempt to keep their Heritage Junior Hockey League undefeated season intact when they host the Lomond Lakers.

BOW MARK WELCOMES RANGERS

The Bow Mark Oilers are flying high with an 11-3-0 record and are second in Chrysler Division. However, they will face a tough test when the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers, the third place team in the Dodge Division, pay a visit.
