Weekend entertainment guide for the final weekend of July

Wheels keep on rolling

Rev up those engines and head on down to the Thumbs Up Association’s Black Diamond Car Show, featuring an array of vintage, classic and custom vehicles. The event kicks off with a pancake breakfast provided by the Royal Canadian Legion Turner Valley Branch. Proceeds from the registration, breakfast, 50/50 tickets and donations go to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

Double jeopardy

Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to test their knowledge in music, movies, sports and more in a game of Jeopardy Trivia.

Play on a team with friends or join others as you test your knowledge for an opportunity to win prizes. Sign up in advance at okotokslibary.ca as space is limited.

Rising star

Sit back and enjoy the vocal talent of Country 105’s Rising Star competition semifinalist Cody Hall, a Lethbridge singer/songwriter who has a unique way of telling stories with thoughtful lyrics and a voice packed with emotion.

A grave experience

Take a stroll through the local cemetery as historian Karen Peters tells stories of the early homesteaders in the area, some who abandoned their claims due to the harsh life.

Expect to hear about early residents like Kenneth Cameron, who is buried in the cemetery.

When: July 27 at 2 p.m.

Provincial baseball

The Outlaws are on the diamond this weekend with a chance for hometown glory.

The Foothills Outlaws 15U and 11U play host to the Baseball Alberta Provincial Championships in their respective divisions, at Conrad Field and Diamond 10 at Wylie Park, respectively.

Both tournaments begin with opening ceremonies at the above diamonds at 6 p.m. and kick-off the tournament at 6:30 p.m. on July 26 The U15 Outlaws then battle the Olds Spitfires at noon on July 27 and clash with Red Deer at 6 p.m.

The playoff competition runs on July 28 with the schedule not set in stone due to the potential for tiebreakers. The final will either be at 2, 3 or 4 p.m. In the U11 competition, the Outlaws continue action on July 27 at 6 p.m. versus Beaumont with the playoffs to follow on July 28. The semifinals are at 1 and 3 p.m. and the championship goes at 7 p.m.

Dawgs return

The first-place Okotoks Dawgs (34-10) make their return to the friendly confines of Seaman Stadium for the first time in over a week with two weekend tilts at home.

The Edmonton Prospects and Lethbridge Bulls visit Big Rock Country on July 26-27, both 7:05 p.m. starts. Okotoks is in Lethbridge on July 28 and then the teams come right back to Okotoks for a rubber match on July 29, a rescheduled date from a previously postponed game.
