Water services have been restored to the majority of homes in Okotoks' north side after a water line was broken this afternoon.
Town crews working in the Okotoks Drive area hit a water line sometime after 2 p.m. causing a water outage that stretched across much of the area north of the Sheep River.
Tim leRiche, Epcor spokesperson based in Edmonton, said crews have isolated the leak and the water is back on in most locations.
“Water service is restored for the most part, but we believe a small number of homes are still affected,” he said.
leRiche said the break did not affect residents or businesses south of the Sheep River.
As the water comes back on-line, he said officials will be testing water quality. The tests are a routine precaution after water line breaks. He people are asked to be patient and not drink water until after tests are complete. Water can be used for washing or showering.
“Even though the water has been mostly restored, we have to do precautionary water testing,” said leRiche. “We realize it’s getting close to supper time and people want to cook, but if people can be patient we’ll get more information as soon as we can.”
People are asked to turn on their taps for as long as 10 minutes to flush out their water lines before using it.
