Okotoks RCMP has released more information relating to a fatal single-vehicle collision on Highway 2A between 338 Ave. and Banister Drive that occurred early in the morning of Nov. 9.

According to an updated press release received at 4:28 p.m. on Nov. 9, from the RCMP, police responded to a report of an SUV driving southbound into traffic in the northbound lane of Highway 2A/Northridge Drive.

While en route, a second call came in that the SUV had rolled in the median.

The report states the SUV did not collide with any other vehicles.

In a phone call, EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux said emergency crews arrived at the scene between Banister Gate and 338 Avenue on Northridge Drive just after 2:30 a.m.

"When we arrived, we noted one vehicle involved with significant damage," said EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux.

"We were able to identify there was one individual inside the vehicle who paramedics determined was deceased.

"Just given the nature of the scene, fire, police and EMS had a look around the immediate area and determined there wasn't anyone else involved."

The single occupant was a 40-year-old male from Calgary.

An RCMP collision analyst remained on scene until 9:30 a.m. and speed was determined a factor and the investigation continues.

The northbound lanes were closed to traffic and drivers were being diverted to 32 Street.

No further information will be made available.
