A male in his early 40s was airlifted by STARS to Foothills Hospital on July 18 after his motorcycle collided with the rear end of a pick up truck northwest of Okotoks.

The collision occurred on 112 Street West shortly before 7:30 am. The motorcyclist was in serious but stable condition, though Okotoks RCMP Sgt. Donna Rorison said he was quite badly injured.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, though Rorison said there was no alcohol or speeding involved to the RCMP’s knowledge.

There have been numerous motorcycle accidents in the Foothills area recently, Rorison said.

“I don’t know what the stats say on that, but we always have a lot of motorcycle accidents, I think this is our fourth serious one we’ve had here in the last 2-3 weeks.”

Later that afternoon a male motorcycle driver in his 50s was transported to Foothills hospital by ambulance with critical injuries after a collision with a car at the intersection of Southridge Drive and Highway 7.

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. when a young female driver in a Volkswagen Jetta attempted to make a left hand turn off of Highway 7 in front of the eastbound motorcycle.

The driver of the car was not injured, but RCMP Cst. Ferida Balic said she was “extremely shaken up.”

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
