Turner Valley RCMP are praising members of Eden Valley for their assistance in the arrest of three individuals for marijuana trafficking last week.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, RCMP arrested a trio suspected of dealing drugs on the reserve.

RCMP only turned up a small amount of marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia — less than 30 grams of marijuana was found in the house and no other drugs were found — but officers said it is encouraging residents informed the RCMP about the suspicious activity.

RCMP are praising the efforts of members of the community in helping to identify and stop drug activity at the house.

Turner Valley RCMP Const. Jeremy Perdue said members of the community provided information that suspicious activities were going on at the home.

“There was an indication that there was a large amount of traffic going to the residence and certainly we did receive information from the community that marijuana purchases were being made at that residence,” he said.

He added the information was critical to helping RCMP complete their investigation and obtain a search warrant for the home.

“As with any community, usually it’s the community members who are the first to notice suspicious activity going on around a residence,” he said. “In Eden Valley, it’s a smaller tight-knit community so often people do know what’s going on.”

He said they spent at least a month investigating the allegations before obtaining a search warrant and laying charges.

“We executed the (search) warrant and made entry in to the residence and located some individuals inside,” said Perdue.

Patrick Holloway, 45, and Lynette Lefthand, 38, are charged with possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well as possession of property obtained by crime. Holloway is also facing one count of failing to comply with bail conditions.

Verlina Lefthand is charged with possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

All three were scheduled to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court on Jan. 11.
