Trial delayed for second time

The trial for the owners of an Okotoks fast food restaurant who are charged with obstructing justice has been put off for a second time.

The trial for the owners of an Okotoks fast food restaurant who are charged with obstructing justice has been put off for a second time.

Satnam and Jagjit Gill, owners of the Okotoks A&W, are accused with forcing a trio of former employees to sign a document giving an alibi for another restaurant worker who was facing a criminal charge. These allegations have not been proven in court.

The trial was scheduled to go ahead on Jan. 4 in Calgary Court.

However, it was rescheduled to June 1 because Judge P.M. McIlhargey removed himself from the case.

“The judge recused himself because of a previous case that was related to this,” said Crown prosecutor Darren Mahoney.

As well, a Tagalog interpreter was needed for the trial, but unavailable on Jan. 4

This is the second delay for the matter.

It was first scheduled to go to trial on May 11 but did not proceed due to a delay and a need for two interpreters.
