The Okotoks Public Library is looking for teens ages 13-18 with an aptitude for trivia to join its Jeopardy team next week.
On Tuesday July 16 from 1-2 p.m. the team will face its first opponent via video-conference: the Irricana Public Library.
"We are going to be against the Irricana Library (for the first game) and we want bragging rights," said Sarah Gillie, Okotoks Public Library assistant director and youth services manager. "We are looking for teams to sign up, and we want to win."
A round-robin style tournament, each game will consist of two rounds: Jeopardy, and Final Jeopardy.
Victory on July 16 will bring the team to the next round, with the high-stakes competition aiming for one goal: the grand prize, a small collection of table top games.
"I really just want the bragging rights more than the games," said GIllie with a laugh.
Teen Jeopardy is a provincial competition organized by the Marigold Library System headquarters, located in Strathmore. While the competition isn't new, this will be Okotoks Public Library's first foray into the field.
The team can have as many as 25 members, and with a week till the competition the library is working hard to find the brightest teens in the community.
"We're pushing it, we're really trying to get the word out to the teens that really want to take part in it," said Gillie. "We're hoping people sign up because we want to win, we need lots of teens to come.
"We're looking for trivia nerds, you know, if you're always the one that always has random facts that you like to tell your friends, you're perfect for this program."
