Sewer repairs will cause some traffic headaches for commuters next week.

The southbound lanes of Northridge Drive will be closed on Jan. 17 between No Frills and Elizabeth Street between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Municipal manager Rick Quail hopes the work can be completed before the evening commute begins. He said the road must be closed to replace a 50-year-old sanitary sewer in the Elma Street area under the road.

“There’s a crack in the pipe and some shifting,” said Quail.

Northbound traffic won’t be affected by the move, however, southbound vehicles will be detoured at Milligan Drive. Only vehicles heading to No Frills of the Sandstone community will be allowed to proceed further south. People are asked to be patient and find alternate other ways around the construction. Alternate routes include, either 32 Street, Centre Avenue or Milligan Drive.

The Town has looked at doing the work on a weekend, but he said it would’ve resulted in a larger traffic disruption because traffic along the stretch of road is lighter during daytime hours on a weekday.
