The doors of a new DynaLIFE Medical Labs facility will officially open next week.
Come Dec. 5, most Okotoks residents looking to get routine blood work done will do so at the new location at 201-200 Southridge Dr., instead of the urgent care centre.
An Alberta Precision Laboratories representative previously told The Wheel in June that the community patient service centre was being opened as part of a new contract between Alberta Health Services, Alberta Precision Laboratories and DynaLIFE.
A transition to a single, centralized booking system is also being implemented to schedule all community lab service appointments. Appointments can be booked at qme.dynalife.ca.
Necessary lab work for Okotoks Urgent Care patients will continue to be provided by Alberta Precision Labs.
Other communities, including Airdrie, Cochrane and Strathmore, are also expected to see patient service centres and mobile collection facilities as part of the contract.
The Province has said this change will save anywhere from $18 million to $36 million.
