Quick action by Okotoks homeowner and fire crews saves home

A home still stands and the resident is safe after a near-miss kitchen fire.

The Okotoks Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at a residence on Sheep River Drive around 11:00 a.m. Nov. 29.

The homeowner discovered her oven had caught fire and quickly called 911 while attempting to extinguish it.

According to acting Fire Captain Ryan Chigol, the fire was all but out when crews arrived and there was little damage to the home.

No other structures were endangered and no one was hurt in the incident. Traffic was obstructed temporarily on Sheep River Drive but cleared soon after.
