The Foothills Philharmonic Society is performing on Wednesday, Aug. 24 in the last Picnic at the Piano event of the summer.
The outdoor concert runs from noon to 1 p.m. at the Okotoks Art Gallery.
"The FPS is a music society dedicated to bringing beautiful music to the Foothills, mainly in the larger 'classical' tradition. We are composed of several different choirs as well as an orchestra," said founder and director Tim Korthuis.
The group does pieces from the renaissance to present day and focuses on music written to highlight the voice and vocal harmonies.
"We now have a vocal jazz group that obviously does jazz as well as more pop pieces (Beatles, etc) and a men's chorus with more folk and pop pieces, as well as a chamber chorus doing more difficult choir pieces and and opera chorus that sings opera pieces in collaboration with the Calgary concert opera company," said Korthuis.
The FPS was formed by Korthuis and a couple of his friends in 2014 with a vision to make beautiful classical music.
Korthuis said registration is open for those who would like to join the group. The society is also starting a youth strings group in January, along with a youth chorus next fall. For more information about the group, visit www.footphil.com.
Organized by the Town of Okotoks and the Okotoks Arts Council, the monthly summer concert series at the art gallery encourages people to arrive with a blanket and lunch to enjoy the performance.
