Okotoks is looking for another tenant to help fill its existing library building once the books have moved across the parking lot.

Bow Valley College and Cameron Crossing School are both slated to lease the current Okotoks Public Library building once the $23.3-million Arts and Learning Campus is complete and library operations have shifted to the new space, but there will be 3,700 square feet of space available for another organization to lease for up to five years.

Expressions of interest are currently being accepted for proposed uses for the site to complement the partners who have already signed on to the Arts and Learning Campus: CTR Catholic (St. Luke’s Outreach Centre and board offices), Community Futures, Bow Valley College, Foothills School Division (Cameron Crossing School) and the Okotoks Public Library.

“What we’re hoping is that there’s a compatible use that goes in there, so something that brings consistency to the arts and learning nature of the campus, that is innovative, that lends creative or economic activity to the area,” said Jeff Greene, director of development services for the Town.

The expressions of interest can be submitted by email and should include information on the proposed use, how long the organization or individual is willing to lease the space and the rate they would be prepared to pay.

While the timeline for occupancy is dependent on construction of the new building, he said to-date everything is on schedule for a projected fall 2021 completion.

Okotoks CAO Elaine Vincent said the countdown is on for opening the doors to the new facility, and those who are interested a preview the final product.

“There is a wonderful new video that shows what it’s going to look like when it’s done,” said Vincent.

Those who wish to submit an expression of interest can email their proposal to Brian Couronne, Okotoks facilities manager, at [email protected] with the subject line “Expression of Interest to Lease Space at 7 Riverside Drive (Okotoks Arts and Learning Campus).

The deadline for submissions is March 26.

More information on the project and the video can be found at www.okotoks.ca, or on YouTube.
