Okotoks resident's work on hold due to vandalism

Gord White is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to charges being laid against the individual(s) who vandalized a pair of his dump trucks on Oct. 3 or 4. (Bruce Campbell, Western Wheel).

Vandals have taken an Okotokian's bread and butter.

Now that victim wants to put up some of his own bread to catch those who vandalized a pair of his dump trucks last weekend.

“I would like to post a thousand-dollar reward if anybody does have any information — I am sure there is more than one person,” said Gord White. “They are taking my ability to work… that’s upsetting.

“It's taking money out of my pocket and it’s taking away my bread and butter.”

The vandalism, which White said occurred either Oct. 3 or 4, is going to cost him “more than a few thousand dollars.”

White had the two trucks parked at an acreage along the Sheep River, east of the Okotoks library. He did not have them insured because he wasn’t using them, but was about to do so as he was starting a new job in Calgary.

“I keep them off the road if I am not using them because the insurance and the plates cost me a lot of money,” White said. “I was just getting ready to put them back on the road.”

He said the trucks have been parked as his work has slowed due to COVID-19.

They won’t be back on the road for a while.

“They smashed the windows out, they smashed the headlights out, they smashed the signal lights off of it, the side windows…” White said. “This is going to cost me a lot of money... just to replace those windshields, because they are older trucks… Now I have to take money to fix it, take the time to deal with it, just because some punks thought it was a fun thing to do.”

He said he will likely have to rent a truck to do the job in Calgary.

White said the vandalism to the truck — and some vandalism on the property — has been reported to Okotoks RCMP.

He said the RCMP was at the property investigating.

The RCMP was not available for comment at this time.

Details about the reward will be in an update of this story.
