New cougar sighting near Heritage Pathway/Lineham area

The Town of Okotoks has issued a warning of a recent cougar sighting in the Heritage Pathway/Lineham area.

This includes the pathways along the Sheep River southeast of Lineham Avenue.

According to a social media post by the Town, Fish & Wildlife has been notified and warning signage has been posted. The public is asked to use caution or avoid area and always keep pets on leash. The town has also said not to intentionally feed wildlife, as this may bring predators into residential areas.

There had previously been a sighting on Jan. 15 in the Sheep River Cove area.

Anyone under attack by a wild animal should call 9-1-1. Anyone who spots a cougar or bear is asked to call Parks at 403-938-8958 & Report-A-Poacher at 1-800-642-3800 — this line is monitored 24/7.
