Okotoks RCMP is looking for the public’s assistance with a recent trend of vehicles being broken into where items have been stolen including vehicles in some cases.

Okotoks RCMP is looking for any video footage from the night of Saturday, Sept. 23 night (and the early hours of Sept. 24) that shows suspects pulling on car door handles or stealing from vehicles. The video may assist in identifying the suspects who have been in the community recently. If you have video, please bring it to Okotoks RCMP detachment or contact us.

If you witness someone breaking into a vehicle, do not approach or confront them. Call 9-1-1 to report the crime in progress.

Due to our most recent spree of vehicle thefts, please remember a few tips to help minimize the chance of being impacted by these criminal activities. It is recommended you always lock your vehicle and removal all valuables from your vehicle or out of sight.

Often criminals will simply check for insecure vehicle doors for quick, easy access to valuables and garage door openers. If your vehicle is parked in a garage, do not keep the keys inside the vehicle. This makes it too easy for them to be stolen, especially with newer vehicles having transponder keys and push-button start.

Have a question or concern? For general inquiries the public can contact the Okotoks RCMP at 403-995-6400 Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For assistance, the public can contact the non-emergency complaint line at 403-938-4202 and for urgent matters please call 9-1-1 (24 hours a day). To report crime online, or for access to RCMP news and information, download the Alberta RCMP app through Apple or Google Play.

The public can also report information to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.ab.ca
