Miniature Masterpieces on display at Okotoks Art Gallery

The Members’ Show and Sale at the Okotoks Art Gallery features original art made exclusively by OAG members.

The Members’ Show and Sale at the Okotoks Art Gallery is back for its third summer.

Launched in 2020 when COVID-19 shut down most events, it features original art made exclusively by OAG members. Given its initial success, the gallery decided to continue with the show every summer.

“Our regular exhibits were cancelled, and we wanted to find a way to support our local artists who had nowhere else to sell their work," said Katrina Lougheed, a gallery assistant at OAG. "All the regular markets and everything had shut down.”

The show has two separate gallery spaces, including the Small Gallery which is showcasing Miniature Masterpieces where every piece displayed is eight inches or smaller.

“It really challenges artists to do something that might be outside of their comfort zone. Usually artists tend to work in larger pieces. It also gives the opportunity for tourists and guests coming in to just pick up something small and take home with them,” said Lougheed.

The show has a huge array of items, from paintings to jewelry, for people to see.

“We've got some absolutely gorgeous hand-carved wooden birds that are so realistic you think they're about to take off their perch. We have knitted stuffed animals that are so adorable. We've got wood carving tree faces that you can hang up to look like a tree is looking at you,” said Lougheed.

The show runs until Sept. 9. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
