Better late than never.

Jenna O'Reilly of Millarville took the hard route to qualify for Showdown Sunday at the Calgary Stampede but she will be there after finishing second on July 17 at Wildcard Saturday in ladies barrel racing.

"It was a good run, it wasn't our fastest but it was our smoothest," O'Reilly said of her run of 17.860 seconds on Saturday. "I haven't been running her a lot, but we have just been getting smoother and smoother every day."

She is riding Scooter at the Stampede, who is owned by her friend Lakota Bird from Nanton.

O'Reilly was forced into Wildcard Saturday when she finished seventh among 11 barrel racers in Pool B with $1,500 won from July 13-16.

The top four riders from Pool A and Pool B moved on to Showdown Sunday, those barrel racers who didn't qualify could get an invite by finishing in the top two on Wildcard Saturday.

Toni Dixon of Millarville finished fifth on Wildcard Saturday with a time of 18.130 to put an end to her first Calgary Stampede.

Foothills Comp grad Jordan Hansen didn't have to go the wildcard route to get to the final in bull riding as he finished tied for third in Pool B.
