Leighton marks 20th Annual Juried Members Exhibition

Show features 64 pieces of work by 38 member artists selected from over 300 submissions

One of the Foothills’ historic art institutions is marking a milestone.

The Leighton Art Centre is holding its 20th Annual Juried Members Exhibition, a curated showing with every Leighton artist member eligible to submit up to three of their best recent pieces to be selected by a jury. 

What is on display is 64 pieces by 38 artists, selected from over 300 submissions, which a media release by the Leighton calls a “fresh and exciting visual treat.”

The centre welcomed acclaimed Calgary artist Chris Cran as a guest juror for the 2022 exhibition. Cran graduated in 1979 from the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary from which he also received the ACAD Alumni Award of Excellence in 2011. and was exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently at the Nickle Art Galleries at the University of Calgary, Glenbow Museum (2019), Mylona Gallery in Zurich, Switzerland (2018, and the National Gallery of Canada (2016) in a large survey exhibition that combined exhibitions from the Art Gallery of Alberta (2015) and the Southern Alberta Art Gallery (2015). 

The opening reception for the Exhibition is on Saturday, April 9 from 2-4 p.m., with remarks at 3 p.m. and in-person admission is by donation. 

The exhibition will continue to show until June 5, and pieces will also be available to view and purchase at shop.leightoncentre.org.
