Indie folk group Two Late To The Party is performing in Okotoks this Friday.

The group originally started out as a duo with Adam Corkett and Alessandra Enns back in 2017 and has recently added Andrew Kruschell as a drummer.

“So we're (Corkett and Enns) both singers, songwriters. (We) both wrote songs and performed on our own, both stepped away from it due to family and professional reasons and then came back to doing music,” said Corkett. “We were volunteering together and performing together and decided to just kind of combine our talents to start Two Late To The Party.”

The group is playing on Aug. 19 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Big Beaver Brewing where it will perform originals as well as some covers.

The group is known for music that is a mix of folk and roots with an indie bent to it that is heartfelt and catchy.

“I think we kind of fall into a similar kind of vibe of the Lumineers and that kind of rootsy folk kind of sound or just songs that can kind of pick people up and songs that they can sing along with,” said Corkett.

The group released its first album, Great Unraveling, in 2020. The album charted nationally on college and community radio in the top 100 and was a top 10 folk album across Canada multiple times. The group was recently nominated for Spiritual Artist of the Year for the Western Canadian Music Awards and was nominated at the YYC Music Awards for folk recording of the year.

“It’s pretty humbling to be nominated for anything and then look at all the other people that are nominated in the same categories, it's a pretty big honour to be included in those things. It sounds so cliché, but like anytime, it feels like a pretty special achievement,” Corkett said. “It's just nice to be recognized. And it's not kind of the goal of what we're doing.

"But the flip side is that it doesn't, it always feels good to be recognized for the things you do.”

Last year the group began working on its second album, Sunrise, which its aiming to release in the fall. The group is also putting out a new single the day of the concert which will be on the new album as well.
