Car accidents had first responders busy on Wednesday, Aug 17.
Crews responded to three separate accidents on Okotoks-area highways over the course of the afternoon. The first call came in at approximately 1:15 p.m. for a two-vehicle collision on Highway 783 (Dump Road) near 394 Avenue.
EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux said that an elderly man and woman, and a teenaged male, all from the same vehicle, were taken to hospital by ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Two occupants of the second vehicle were assessed on scene by EMS but were not taken to hospital.
Three ambulances attended the crash along with firefighters and RCMP.
Two hours later, at approximately 3:20 p.m., firefighters, EMS and RCMP responded to a collision between a cyclist and SUV on Highway 549 at 354 Avenue W.
The cyclist was in critical condition as the result of the collision. STARS was called but was unable to attend, and the patient was transported by ground ambulance to hospital.
Highway 549 was closed due to the collision.
While crews were on scene of the collision involving the cyclist, they got word of another accident, this one between a motorcycle and SUV at Highway 7 and Highway 2A, east of Okotoks.
Staff Sgt. Greg Wiebe with Foothills RCMP said a motorcycle was attempting to merge onto Highway 7 from Highway 2A when it struck an SUV at approximately 3:45 p.m.
The lone occupant of the motorcycle, a male in his mid-50s, was taken to hospital by ambulance in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, Brideaux said.
A fourth accident took place outside of town, at approximately 6 p.m., said Brideaux, when EMS responded to another crash involving a motorcycle.
A group of motorcyclists was travelling together on Highway 762 when one of the riders in the group lost control around a curve near 242 Avenue.
The male rider, in his early 40s, was transported by ambulance with minor injuries.
“Luckily, no other bikes were involved, and no vehicles were involved,” Brideaux said.
An ambulance was sent from Cochrane and other riders in the group helped the injured person until EMS arrived on scene.
