Artist David Kitler works over a painting in his DeWinton studio on April 22. His work will be among the ArtWorks! Fine Art Show at the DeWinton Community Hall running April 28-30.

A fine art sale is returning to DeWinton this weekend.

After making a post-COVID comeback last fall, the ArtWorks! Art Show and Sale returns to the DeWinton Community Hall from April 28-30.

Taking part in the sale are Ann Beswick, Elizabeth Ellis-Bassett, Kim Berlie, Angie Denovan, David Kitler, Fran Porter, Jim Pescott, Lynda Vowell, Marnie Delver and Carol Ann Beswick.

“We have a core of about 10 regular artists, then we open up a couple spots for artists new to the group,” said Kitler, who specializes in ultra-realistic nature paintings. “If you notice our group, it’s about different styles; there’s jewelry, there’s hand crafts, there’s weaving.

“We’re trying to have it not all just be flat art, not the same style, and not the same subject matter.”

The placement off the highway between Calgary and Okotoks draws in a lot of weekend drivers, Kitler has found.

“What we see is a lot of people do come in and say they were there because they saw the signs, meaning they’re not local,” Kitler said.

Many that stumble upon the show remark they made the detour on a whim only to be pleasantly surprised.

“One of the nicest things I’ve heard is someone comes in and says, ‘This a real art show,’” Kitler said, adding that while it obviously is, the calibre of work is somewhat unexpected to some passersby.

“It does resonate to have somebody acknowledge that.”

While most of Kitler’s work revolves around wildlife, some of it involves an isolated tribe he interacted with during a past trip to study the harpy eagle.

“I’m thinking about going back to Panama to work with this tribe again,” he said.

The show runs Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
