Firefighters continue to battle a grassfire just east of the Okotoks overpass.
Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot said the fire was set accidentally. He said while the blaze is not yet quite under control, the approximately 30km an hour winds from the west are causing problems.
“The wind makes it very difficult to fight the fire at this time,” Thevenot said at about 3:50 p.m. “So we are redeploying crews to different areas all the time to try and keep the fire under control.”
There is a barn and other structures about 400m to the southeast of the blaze.
Firefighters from Okotoks, the MD of Foothills and High River are on the scene.
A large grassfire is being fought west of Quirk Creek on Highway 549 west of Highway 762. Some local residents are being evacuated, according to the MD of Foothills press release.
