Foothills County awarding two $2,500 scholarships to ag students

Post-secondary students studying agriculture are eligible to apply for awards granted by the Foothills Agricultural Service Board.

Foothills County is giving local post-secondary students a chance to get some help with their tuition. 

The Agricultural Services Board Scholarship is back, awarding two $2,500 scholarships to students hailing from the Foothills who are studying agriculture. 

Applicants must be a resident of the County, including Blackie, Cayley, Aldersyde, Naphtha, Priddis, Millarville, Heritage Pointe and DeWinton. 

Students enrolled in their second, third or fourth year of post-secondary study in agronomy, animal science, ag business, agricultural production, agricultural mechanics, or studies intended to effect change on the agricultural landscape are eligible to apply. Scholarships will be awarded following presentation of proof of enrolment and must be used in the year they are awarded. 

The applicant's field of study must lead to a degree or diploma in the recognized programs and cannot have won a board scholarship previously. 

To be considered, students must provide proof of enrolment at a post-secondary institution in an eligible program, disclose academic standing through the previous year's academic transcripts, demonstrate leadership in their community or school, be actively involved in the community and submit a 500-word essay detailed why they are studying for and pursuing a career in agriculture. 

Selections will be made by the Agricultural Service Board following the submission deadline of 4 p.m. on Aug. 31.
