Foothills 'bull' turns into a 'bunny' to celebrate Easter

Barry the Barley Bull has temporarily turned into Bucky the Easter Bunny.

Barry the Barley Bull has morphed, at least temporarily, into Bucky the Easter Bunny.

The massive barley straw roadside attraction in Foothills County, created by Pat Holden and husband Darcy Wenaas last fall, is sporting a new look for Easter.

Holden said huge credit must go to some fabulous neighbours who helped with this version of Barry/Bucky, especially Linda Hayes, who sewed ears measuring a whopping 42 inches.

The Easter basket was made from a children's swimming pool and pool noodles were used for the handle.

Holden said Barry, who has previously been decked out for Halloween, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day, with plans in the works to outfit him for Stampede this summer, has definitely become the neighbourhood mascot.

Made from two round bales and one square bale, Barry sits on the 127-acre farm the Holden family owned for almost a century. Although the farm was sold in December, Holden said the new owner is happy to let them continue to update Barry.

Barry can be found across from 106006-242 Ave. W, just around the corner from Granary Road.
