Okotoks and Foothills fire crews work to extinguish a pickup truck ablaze on Highway 2 near 306 Ave. east of Okotoks on Aug. 1. While quick response by firefighters kept the fire from spreading, the truck's ruptured gas tank caused flames to persist for over an hour. No one was injured in the incident.

Emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire on Highway 2 near 306 Ave. Sunday afternoon.

The call came in on Aug.1 around 2:50 p.m. of a truck on fire just north of the intersection.

Foothills and Okotoks fire crews and RCMP were on scene soon after and found a truck fully engulfed in flames.

The fire was promptly contained by the quick work of firefighters, but the truck's ruptured gas tank caused the flames to persist, Foothills Fire Capt. Craig Stewart said, adding no one was injured in the incident.

Firefighters continued to monitor hot spots before a tow truck removed the vehicle.

Update: As of approximately 4:25 p.m. the scene was cleared all lanes of traffic on Highway 2 were open.
