Update: Okotoks man killed in highway collision

A 59-year-old Okotoks man was killed when the car he was driving collided with a pick-up truck on Highway 2 at 306 Avenue E, near Okotoks at around 5 a.m. on July 7. 

RCMP investigation determined that the pickup truck, which was travelling southbound on Highway 2, collided with a car that was eastbound on 306 Avenue E. near Okotoks.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old male from Okotoks, died as a result of injuries from the collision. The 36-year-old male driver of the pick-up truck from Calgary suffered minor injuries.

RCMP officers from Okotoks, Nanton, Turner Valley and the RCMP Collision Reconstruction unit responded to the collision as well as Emergency Medical Services, Okotoks Fire Department and the Foothills Fire Department.

Traffic was limited to one lane on southbound Highway 2 for several hours while police investigated. Both southbound lanes are now open and normal traffic flow has resumed.

All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered, and the collision remains under investigation. No further updates are anticipated.
