An early morning fire caused extensive damage to a Woodhaven home last week.

Okotoks Fire Services responded to reports of fire at 1-7 Woodglen Place at 6:02 a.m. on April 14. Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

“Upon arrival there was heavy smoke from floor to ceiling and coming out the eaves of the house,” said Okotoks fire chief Ken Thevenot. “The report was there was nobody living there at the time.”

The Foothills Fire Department was called in from Heritage Pointe to assist with battling the blaze. Crews were on-scene until about 10 a.m. There was extensive smoke and fire damage to the home, said Thevenot.

“It was a tricky one because it got into the walls of the house,” he said. “It took us a bit of time to chase it around and get it extinguished. We were chasing hot spots.”

The fire originated in the basement and spread to the second floor of the home, said Thevenot.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and Fire Services continues to investigate. Foul play is not suspected at this time, he said.
