It's a happy ending for one pup today after what could've turned into tragedy.

A woman was walking her two dogs west of Okotoks on Tuesday, March 26, when one of them became ensnared in barbed wire.

Fire crews and peace officers from Okotoks responded quickly, freeing the dog before any serious damage was done.

"When we arrived the dog was entangled, legs body and head in a barbed wire fence," said Okotoks Fire Captain Dave Hodgins.

"We used our extrication tools and cutters to remove the dog."

Hodgins noted the dog appeared to have no serious injuries.

"It went home happily with mom".
